A bridal makeup trial is one of the loveliest, and most reassuring, parts of planning your wedding beauty. It is your chance to sit in the chair, see your look come to life, and make any adjustments long before the big day. If you have never had one, the idea can feel a little unknown, so here is exactly what to expect and how to get the most from it.
What a Trial Actually Is
A trial is a relaxed rehearsal of your wedding day makeup, usually held a few weeks or a couple of months before the wedding. Together we talk through the look you have in mind, test it on your skin, and refine it until it feels completely you. By the time your wedding morning arrives, there are no surprises. You already know how you will look and feel, which is a wonderful weight off your shoulders.
Come With a Clean, Bare Face
Arrive with no makeup on so your skin can be properly assessed and prepped from scratch. Follow your usual skincare routine that morning so your skin is in its normal, everyday state. What to Bring
A few simple things will help us create the perfect look together:
- Inspiration photos. Save three to five images you love, ideally on people with similar colouring to you. Photos of looks you do not like are just as helpful, as they tell me what to avoid.
- A sense of your dress. Bring a photo of your gown, or wear a top in a similar shade of white or ivory. The colour and neckline genuinely influence how your makeup is balanced.
- Any jewellery or accessories you plan to wear, so the whole look can be considered as one.
- Your own skincare or makeup if there are products your skin already loves, or a lipstick you would like to wear for touch ups on the day.
What Happens During the Trial
We begin with a chat about your vision, your dress, your venue and how you would like to feel. Then I prep your skin and create the look, talking you through choices as we go. This is your moment to speak up. If you would like more or less coverage, a softer or bolder eye, or a different lip, tell me. Nothing is set in stone, and honest feedback is exactly what makes the final result perfect. We can take photos, including in natural light and with flash, so you can see how everything reads on camera.
Timing and a Few Practical Notes
Book your trial a few weeks out, close enough to your wedding that your skin and colouring are similar, but with enough time to plan around it. It is also a great opportunity to check how your makeup wears through the day, so you know it will last through the ceremony, the photos and the dancing.
